City Gourmet Group welcomes Chef Jamie Sola

City Gourmet Group welcomes Chef Jamie Sola!

SAM_1805Sola is originally from Boston, MA and is a 2005 graduate of Johnson & Wales University College of Culinary Arts in Providence, RI.  Sola also attended the Sushi Chef Institute in Los Angeles.

Sola relocated to the Raleigh/Durham area and held various positions over the next seven years including Raleigh’s 5-Star, 5-Diamond Umstead Hotel and Spa, Prestonwood Country Club and Vin Rouge Frency Bistro in Durham, NC.

Chef Sola specializes in accessible, eclectic American cuisine, a focus for City Gourmet Group, has been serving Pittsburgh’s special event, corporate and on-location catering for more than 20 years.

“Jim & Libby Calato are creative innovators, so the possibilities of what we can deliver are endless,” said Chef Sola. “The focus here is on the client, so rather than niche specialities, we deliver quality, great taste and creative twists on nearly every type of cuisine.”

But Sola isn’t without his favorites. He loves rustic food preparation such as stews, braised hen, coq au vin, cacciatore, and braised pork shoulder. His culinary influences include Chef Eric Ripert, Chef Ming Tsai, Chef Mario Batali and Chef Scott Crawford.

Chef Sola’s first reaction to the Pittsburgh food scene – “Upward and limitless potential. Rich heritage and traditions abound here, and with the ever upward food revolution that’s young, but alive and flourishing, it’s an exciting time to be here.”

Sola is applying the same promising attitude to City Gourmet, a Pittsburgh institution he describes as expansive, great value and excellent product.

“The City Deli restaurant space (in the lower level of the Koppers Building) has great potential and the type of interactive catering we’re already doing is popular and successful. I’m looking forward to bringing more to a table that’s already quite special.”
